All age comics for March 16, 2016

This week in all age comics we’re pumped because our favorite books come out, plus lots of others that will appeal to young readers. For the record, our current favorites are Jim Henson’s Storyteller Dragons, Usagi Yojimbo, Lumberjanes and Simpsons Comics.  Everything but Dragons is great for any age, while the Henson title is good for slightly older kids, say 12 and up.

What will your young reader want to dig into?  If your child is into Adventure Time they’ll like Adventure Time Ice King #3, it’s a story all about Ice King on his own. There is also a new Adventure Time Trade Paperback that collects issues 35-39 of the regular comic book.  The reboot of Archie great stuff with all new artwork, stories that tweens will be able to learn from and laugh to.  Its trade paperback that collects issues 1-6 is out.

For the young Disney reader they can check out Uncle Scrooge #12 or the trade paperback Uncle Scrooge Peril of Pandora’s Box that collects issues 7-9 of the series.

It’s a busy week for action with two new Doctor Who books, Mickey Mouse, My Little Pony, Princeless Raven Pirate Princess and others. There are also two Star Wars Magazines coming out this week that appear similar, but are quite different-which we shall explain in the podcast.

All of the links will take you TFAW where you’ll save up to 20% on your order. If you want to find your closest comic book store today just put your zip code into the comic book store locator and you’re all but there.

Easter basket ideas for boys

Boys are different than girls. Certainly, both a 6 year old boy and girl would love a good Easter egg hunt. However, when it comes to Easter basket ideas for boys you should plan accordingly; lest you have egg on your face. Sure, some of the items below will cross over to the girl Easter baskets and vice versa. Being the dad to a 4 and 6 year old boy we know what they’re asking for in their Easter basket and here are a variety of ideas that range from bigger items like the Star Wars throw to a trip to your local $1 store.

Star Wars, Skylanders, comics, dollar store, National Geographic, Hot Wheels, Easter basket gift ideas for boys, star wars throw

We were provided with the Star Wars throw and National Geographic books for the post, but, it’s Star Wars and Nat Geo. Everything else was paid for by us and all of the items would rock a boy’s Easter basket like nobody’s business.

Action Cat & Adventure Bug #1, fabulous, humor, action all age comic

Action Cat & Adventure Bug. The title by itself, even without knowing anything about whatever it is makes you smile. When you see Action Cat & Adventure Bug #1 from Dark Horse Comics you know why. The art immediately grabs any age reader with its big images, happy characters, action and lots of glorious color everywhere you look. The combination of Baltazar and Franco is recognizable from Itty Bitty Hello; folks may also know it from Tiny Titan or other go-to titles for all ages.

Kurios by Cirque de Soleil make the common fascinating

People can be divided into two groups, those who have seen a Cirque de Soleil show and those who haven’t. For those who haven’t it; a show from Cirque de Soleil is an entertaining, fabulous ensemble of acrobatics, stunts and precision that will make active, in shape people seem like wooden planks of bacon grease. Kurios is the latest traveling show from Cirque and it’s in Atlanta through Sunday, May 8.

Cirque, cirque de soleil, kurios, Atlanta, acrobatic, circus, entertaining.

For the other group, those that have seen a Cirque show you roughly know the drill. Kurios is the 35th production from Cirque de Soleil, features 46 performing artists from 15 different countries and manages to shake up the formula. Sure, they’ve ‘shaken up’, the Cirque formula before and the results, while fresh and original, have also felt familiar. There was the show that only had female performers and the equestrian shows; both of which were entertaining, but does not measure on the same shake up scale as Kurios.

Beard in a Box grows on you from the get go

Is Beard In A Box the story of a boy who wants a beard or a dad who has a beard? In a tangential way it could be about classic television advertising, but more on that in a moment. Beard in a Box starts with a young boy talking about how cool his dad is. We see images of the dad being active and cool while his son realizes the source of his coolness-his beard!

4 things families need to know before attending Monster Jam

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday. Insert a day of the week, say it three times in your announcer voice and people immediately know what you’re talking about. Monster Jam. Our kids are somewhat older so we can finally start introducing them to the pleasures of large trucks with big wheels getting massive air from dirt jumps. Monster Jam is pure Americana family fun. It’s for everyone, will leave the kids pumped up and breathless, but there some things that families need to know before visiting.

New All Age Comics for March 9, 2016

It’s a busy week for humor and science fiction this week in new all age comics. There’s only one superhero book for kids coming out this week and the rest are divided up between those two categories.

Plan ahead now for Free Comic Book Day on May 7, it’s where you can pick up free comics….just as the name states. Many of these titles will be OK for the all age audience and closer to then we’ll highlight all of them.

Adventure Time hits a milestone this week with #50, Aw Yeah Comics from Dark Horse brings out Action Cat & Adventure Bug is what I think will be a fabulous comic about good and evil with art that looks like classic Pink Panther from the 70’s.

All age comics, Action cat, free comic book day, Disney, Batman, Doctor who, Scooby doo, adventure time, kids

Back to the Future #6 starts a brand new story arc, a new Haunted Mansion mini-series from Marvel kicks off this week too. Yes, it’s the same Haunted Mansion as in the ride at Walt Disney World, but, it’s one of the cooler rides at Disney and this comic won’t be graphic, so we’re game. Luna the Vampire #3 ends its mini-series run for this comic that’s great for girls who are looking for a book that’s odd and quite funny.  There are also a couple Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (including a team up with Batman!), MLP and Doctor Who books.

The links will take you to TFAW, where you’ll save up to 20% on your comic orders. If you’re looking for the closest comic book store to you just pop in your zip code to the comic book store locator and you’ll be there quicker than a voyage on the  Enterprise, but slower than a TARDIS. The music in the podcast if Jazzhar and can be found over at Free Music Archive.

Skylanders SuperChargers teams with Autism Speaks to raise money

Our 6 year old loves to play Skylanders SuperChargers. Shocking, a 6 year old that likes video games I know. However, what is good for parents and by default, children, is that Skylanders SuperChargers is a near all age perfect game that the entire family can enjoy. I say ‘near all age’ because the game is rated 6+, so younger brothers or sisters can’t get in on the Skylands action yet. Skylanders has partnered with Autism Speaks to create some Power Blue SuperChargers vehicles and characters in honor of Autism Awareness Month.
