Finally my father and Snoop Dogg have something in common

And it’s not their ability to lyrically flow over a beat or their affinity for marijuana.  Recently Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell quit the UCLA football team.  He did so because he wanted to pursue his passion for film through his company Film School Productions.  It’s not my Speilbergian director skills either that bond all of this together. It’s just a dad who really wanted his son to do something, but his son didn’t want to.

Space Racers is equal part education and entertainment #Giveaway #SRPopup

Is Space Racers a television show that aims to educate or entertain? As parents we know that it’s trying to do both, but we can usually detect when it’s about to happen. The effective trick about Space Racers is that the education sneaks up on you. You’re enjoying the pleasant enough episode when all of a sudden someone is off to see what’s making the moon disappear. It’s just the shadow, we know that, but the way that it’s explained will keep kids entertained.

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader board game review

Hey there, we received a copy of the game for review purposes, all thoughts are our own. My wife and I have game night in the house. Sometimes it’s chess, really, occasionally we’ll play chess, it’s not just some snooty thing I’m saying to increase my SAT score. Recently we played the Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader board game. While it took us a couple of games to find our footing, it’s a fun game that anyone eight and older can play with ease and enjoy.

Transformers: Robots In Disguise (Animated) #1 review

Thanks in part to Cartoon Network; various Hasbro Toys, as well as Rescue Bots our kids know Transformers. Well, they know that they’re aliens that came to Earth and can shift into vehicles for one purpose or another. It’s the mythos, history, vintage action figures and questionable live action films that they have yet to learn. This week they learned about the comic book version of them with Transfomers: Robots In Disguise #1, it’s an all age book that our five-year old couldn’t wait to get his hands on.

Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs – great for cookies, cards, figurines and more #ZiplocBackToSchool #Ad

The air in the house is giddy. The children are excited to start school; we’re pumped for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is life getting back to a schedule of sorts. We’ve done the back-to-school shopping. Even for kids going into preschool and kindergarten there are lots of things to purchase at our local Kroger. One item that was on our list was Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs; but not just for the purposes of school lunches, although we did get some specifically for a new cookie recipe we created.

When you have lots of small pieces to something the box will invariably get crushed or disappear. Our youngest child loves cards and that is A-OK with us because they are a fabulous learning tool. He tries to open card decks that are brand new just to make a mess out of them. For him it’s akin to opening a new book just to get that ‘new book’ smell. New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, August 19, 2015

If you live in the southeast it’s only a scant couple of weeks before Dragon Con! Held over Labor Day in Atlanta it’s one of the nation’s largest cons, has massive fan sessions, an entire building (almost) full of collectibles, a parade that will leave you in awe and a crowd that will be about 70,000 deep. Don’t let that number scare you off, the parade is a must see for families and really is quite fun-even though some of the costumes are a bit too scary for the small kids.

Now-on with the new all age comics! Archie has been rebooted and is really fun, #2 comes out this week and is a great read for girls OR boys. Yeah, I said it. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #33 comes out this week too, again, it’s OK if the boys read it. There are two TMNT books out this week, #49 from the comic series and Mutanimals TBP, that collects a series of issues from the comic.

Our favorite release this week though isn’t even a comic, but it is all age appropriate and Star Wars. Star Wars Original Topps Trading Card Series Vol. 1. It collects all five of the series for the first Star Wars film in their Topps Trading Card glory in book form. These aren’t the original cards, it’s a book of the original cards, plus the trivia, stickers, story summaries, puzzle cards-everything except the gum.

Win a $25 gift card to spend at ALDI

Recently we wrote about the new extensive beer selection on sale at ALDI.  Recap: they’re awesome. Now we’re giving away a $25 gift card to ALDI. You can use it however you would like-and if you haven’t shopped there it will go a long way. We go there every week and spend around $30. That amount takes us most of the way through the week for a family of four for the basic food needs. OK, add some of their new beers and the tally goes up, but you get the picture.
