Judge not lest you be judged, in theory and reality #SisterhoodUnite #ad

We were compensated for this post. Having said that, all thoughts are our own. I judged someone on social media one. It was for the silliest of reasons too for someone who I never met, Renee Zellwegger. It was right after she appeared with a drastically different face, remember that? I was filled with righteous indignation about how her new look would do something or another causing harm to society and the tectonic plates underneath Oklahoma and California. A couple hours after I wrote it I took it down. Sure I had a right to judge her, just as she has a right to judge me; but, neither action would do any good, nor promote anything positive. Stop judging is one of the thoughts behind the #SisterhoodUnite campaign at Similac now. If you’ve got a positive story about your parent experience go there now and share it!

Get dirty with #MyFilthiestPlay and qualify to win a new Maytag Washer #ad

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Maytag for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Children are dirty, filthy little people that haven’t learned to avoid messes. Is it that they intentionally seek out messy situations or are they simply playing with reckless abandon and we adults are the ones who need to get dirtier?  A valid argument could be made for either case. Either way if you have children they’ll have laundry that gets stained with all manner of grass, dirt, gunk or other stuff. If you have boys their clothing will get stained beyond recognition in their attempt to change the original color from whatever to ‘dirt’. Parents can get the last laugh by participating in the #MyFilthiestPlay contest  from Maytag laundry and sharing some truly filth, in a good way, moments.

It’s a # LEGO Ninjago Weekend, Aug 15-16 at Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta

If you have children between the ages of 3-10 Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta is one of the must-visit places in Atlanta. We were skeptical of our younger children going there, but there is a large DUPLO area, an even bigger block pit and a big area play structure where they can climb, run and get their silly’s out.  Every time we go there we easily spend three hours with the kids wanting to stay longer and them sleeping very well that night. On Augusts 15 and 16 Legoland is having an event highlighting Ninjago Airjitzu Flyers.

Doctor Who Four Doctors, superb and in time for Doctor Who Comics Day

You’ll never guess what this post is about.  Well actually it’s about two things. Doctor Who, the comic book version, has three incarnations in print. There is a book for the Tenth, Eleventh and now the Twelfth Doctor, who is also in the current version of the television show. Doctor Who Four Doctors is a five week mini-series that comes out each Wednesday through September 9. Also on Saturday, August 15, 2015 readers can celebrate Doctor Who Comics Day at their local shoppe.

The new ALDI extensive beer selection and our homemade BBQ recipe #ad

We were compensated for this post. Having said that, we love to grill out and we really like beer, thus all thoughts are our own.  I am a kitchen sink cooker. By that I mean I use rough estimates when cooking and love to experiment with new tastes. I like our go-to BBQ chicken recipe, but am always on the hunt for something new. With a little tweaking I created a groovy new BBQ chicken recipe, plus I picked up some specialty beer from ALDI and got cooking.

First off, we really do shop at ALDI. Every week it’s the place where we get our staple items. Over the course of two plus years it’s saved us just over $2,500. Really, I just checked with my wife who keeps the books for the family-that is how much we’ve saved.  “Wow, that grocery bill sure was high”, she said after we spent $110 at another place when we were on vacation the other week.  Secure in the fact that I’ve been saving the family money, I could proceed to create a new BBQ flavor for me on the grill.

New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Did you hear that Target is going to gender-neutralize most of their children’s areas? I mention this because that’s cool. A building set is a building set and doesn’t need to be a boy’s or girl’s thing, they’ll figure it out which one they like to build on. Most of the all age comic books are like that too.  Sure there are exceptions, but by and large the new comic books this week for kids can be enjoyed by boys or girls.

Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo Where Are You?, Sonic the Hedgehog, Spongebob Comics and Uncle Scrooge are all out this week. Sonic and Spongebob are much better than you might think. If you’re new to all age comics give them a look because odds are that your child is already very familiar with the characters and will really love it. Home also comes out this week. It’s based on the movie of the same name, but because it doesn’t have the voice over talent or predictable plot it’s worth a look in comic book form.

Ghostbusters Get Real #3 is also great. It has the spirit of the classic movie with updated elements to relate to today’s kids.

There are two Archie compilations released. This is not the update that they did to modernize the characters. These are the more rounded, comic looking characters  that you’re used to. TMNT has two books out, and while the stories there are OK for all ages, boys will be more attracted to the mutant turtles than girls. It’s the opposite for My Little Pony, more girls will be attracted to that title, but our son loves to read it also.

10 years of Mouse Guard? Yes. Mad Magazine? For those 9 or older, yes. There are lots of other options, just dig through the list to see what suits you. The links will take you to TFAW, where you’ll save at least 10% on each order. If you want to find your local comic book store you can do that too.

Klondike Kandy Bar, the nexus of ice cream and candy #IC #AD

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Klondike. I received free product coupons to facilitate my review as well as compensation for my participation. The dog days of summer are a cruel thing indeed. It’s the stuffy, heat blanket of summer that covers you when all you want to do is dig into something cold. Using a spoon to dig into your ice cream is so 2005 and not having candy bars mixed with your ice cream has always been inexcusable. Klondike has solved this issue by having a magical infusion of the candy bars that we know and love, with the convenient packaging that we’re already eating.
