Sharkblock, far from jumps the subject matter for ages 4 and up

Don’t judge a book by its cover. I know the saying. Yet, I was completely judging Sharkblock before looking at it. Ironically, my first thought was that the ‘block’ series has jumped the shark. How could Franceschelli and Peskimo make a block book about sharks that was something more than just a board book asking young readers to look at the sharks? Quicker than you can say ‘hold my cartilage they’ve made a book that continues the excellence that you’d expect from this series. Sharkblock has the thick, interactive pages that fans of the series expect to see, but has added education in the most kid-friendly way possible to their subject matter.

SharkBlock shatters board book expectations by being fun, educational and engaging for ages 4 and up.
Board books are just for babies you say…..

Baby Montessori Boxed Set is cranium food for new people

Montessori. Just the mere mention of it can confuse, intimidate and equally raise or repel parents to their education line in the sand. We think of Montessori as a way of teaching in a way that lets kids find the answer, lets them think more on their own, or uses different methods to engage the students. For example, I teach at a public school, but my methods are ‘Montessori-esque’, in that I’ll let the students dangle on the fishing line of education for a while before I give them the answer. It’s better to teach kids how to get to the answer than to just provide them with it. Those new or expecting parents who want to inspire newborns through crawlers with various concepts should check out Baby Montessori Boxes Set.

Baby Montessori Boxed Set uses disparate colors, hard lines and simple images to create cranium food for new people.

LoveBlock, tweaks the block books for the better

We’ve been fans of the Abrams Block Books since AlphaBlock came out and taught our then three-and-a-half-year-old his letters. Internally, I’m going whaaa, it’s really been eight years? That comes for both the age of our oldest son and how long it’s been since we received AlphaBlock. That book series evolved into dinosaurs, numbers, building, Disney, Marvel, and more. With LoveBlock the series from Christopher Franceschelli with art by Peskimo has changed again, albeit in a very subtle way.

LoveBlock takes the art and style of the block books, tweaks it a bit and nails the concept of love for ages one and up.
Love is, this book and its capture of how it’s exemplified in life

A Book About Dad (and Mom) is keepsake gold from a child’s certain age

Keepsake is a loaded word. On one hand, it reminds us of some cool Christmas ornaments, that we love, put in those specialized boxes every year, and still purchase more of every season. To some people, that word is simply used by companies to imply that the product is worthy of being celebrated in a family for years or generations. For example, I learned that my Star Wars shirt from 1977 is not a keepsake that my children would like to wear. A Book About Dad or A Book About Mom, With Words and Pictures By Me with illustrations by Irena Freitas, is a keepsake book for all the right reasons.

These books will remain in the family forever

Busy Bots, a board book that turns tools into animals

When is a board book not a board book? I’ve asked this riddle before, but it deserves to be asked again. Busy Bots is a board book that occupies one of the interesting corners of the crawler book library. It’s a STEM-minded board book that turns real tools into insects, animals or pretend animals that will leave ages two through seven grinning for multiple reasons.

Proving that board books can be smart and STEM little kid minded

KIBO 10 Home Edition, go-to coding at home for ages 4-7

I am not a coding teacher. However, after trying to teach two elementary-aged students the basics of coding in a number of different ways I have determined the common stumbling block that both of them had. It has to do with the go, stop, turn left, go, stop, rotate, go, blink, go, conundrum. We reviewed a great product from Kinderlab Robotics the other year that was awesome but did have a high price point and geared at classrooms. That robot solved the aforementioned issue that our kids had in learning coding, and now they’ve released the KIBO 10 Home Edition that does so at a much friendlier level to your purse strings.

Coding need not be greek for those aged 4-7

Christmas Parade brings this classic world some seasonal charm

Sandra Boynton is a book treasure. She’s been publishing her distinctive animals with their happy faces, catchy songs, giddy situations and comfort-book food since the early 70’s. Christmas Parade takes her menagerie of critters and puts them center stage in the parade that goes past the pig’s house. They hear the big booms and are initially scared, but then squeal with delight when they realize what’s really happening. If you’ve got a newborn through crawler this is one of the Christmas books that they’ll grow up with and fall asleep to.

Pocket Piggies Christmas! brings home the board book bacon

When I think back to the baby shower gifts we received there were some that rose above others. At both ends of the spectrum were an expensive glass vase and a 24-pack of Hot Wheels. The Hot Wheels cars both boys played with for hours and that vase is in the kitchen where it catches coins, spare batteries or other non-elegant things that it’s not suited for. Somewhere in the middle of these gifts are the board books that our boys enjoyed. In that vein, Pocket Piggies Christmas! is a board book that knows its audience and really delivers the bacon.

Pocket Piggies Christmas! Is seasonal, board book, comfort food for those newborns through toddlers.
