I’m a healthy guy. I exercise a little bit and don’t eat too poorly, but things are changing. The exercise doesn’t happen as much as it used too, my metabolism is slowing just a bit and I had a 1 month period that I’m still recovering from, more on that in a moment. Typically for my birthday my husband and I do a date night to a new sushi restaurant or new bar. This year, though, I thought it would be fun to spend the evening of my birthday with not only my husband but our oldest son as well. We went to see Ringling Bros. Circus, Built to Amaze. As the circus started after his bedtime he was out-of-this-world with excitement, which made me quite excited too. Other than splurging on cotton candy, I didn’t remember much at all about my own childhood experience at the circus and this was my chance to experience it all again with him.

I just asked my wife who her cartoon crush was. At first he said it was Superman, which I found very patriotic and take charge of her. She then corrected herself and said Mickey Mouse. I pressed her as to why and she said that it was because he’s a take charge mouse who solves problems and is an entrepreneur. Regardless of who your cartoon crush is Warner Bros is giving away a DVD that features some of their best characters, perfect for the whole family.

Part of the joy of being a parent is having fun with your children. Dinosaur Train is the rare children’s television show that has wit, intelligence, humor, teachable moments and education in the same package. The fact that Dinosaur Train is enjoyable for the parent as well makes it even more of a treat. Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train Live: Buddy’s Big Adventure is traveling the country and will be at Cobb Energy Center for two shows on February 22 at 1 and 4.

Go big or go home? Not necessarily when you go to the Big Apple Circus. The Big Apple Circus is a more intimate version of Cirque de Soleil crossed with Barnum and Bailey Circus. I took my sons, ages 4 and 2, to see the circus with my 11 year-old niece who came to help. But between the clowns, the acrobats and the animals, they had us covered.

We do family pizza night at least once a week. Personally I’ll do pizza up to 3 times a week, but don’t tell my wife. However, every Friday I cook pizza for the boys. It’s been said that the most expensive habit a guy ever has starts at .98. The subtle joke being that a Hot Wheels car is like a potato chip, you can’t have just one. I still have mine from back when I was a kid, our children have dozens of them and a couple of racing sets. All of this leads to the #HotWheels twitter party with Kmart on 2/12 at 1PM ET. We’ll have $200 in gift cards, which don’t have to be spent on Hot Wheels, but if you’re like this dad blogger and have boys you’ll probably end up using it for that anyway.
