Shimmer & Splash: a fishy look at the sea life that children will like

We just got back from a visit to the beach.  There were six children on the trip between ages 1 to 12.  On the beach the middle to older ones had buckets of questions about sea creatures.  “Something stung me-I think it was a jellyfish”.  “Is that a fin out there? I wonder if it’s a shark or a dolphin?  If your child is between 6 to 12 and have questions about sea life Shimmer & Splash is a good jumping off point. Pacific Rim: quality film plus an old soul with monsters & robots

Pacific Rim is a movie that I didn’t want to like.  “Hurry up and make HellBoy 3 Gulliermo Del Toro, why are you messing around with Pacific Rim?”, my inner fanboy said a couple years ago.  Now that I’ve seen Pacific Rim I’m eating my words to an extent because it is great fun, still has aspects of what makes all of Del Toro’s movies great, except with a much bigger budget. Recovery from a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy: Melanoma surgery

When you wake up from your Sentinel Lymph Node surgery you’re groggy and won’t remember much.    Groggy is putting it mildly as I couldn’t remember how I got dressed to leave the hospital.  It was an 8 hour bar bender that left me hungry and curious, complete with a stop at Arby’s on the way home.

This is my story about recovery from melanoma surgery.  They biopsied one Sentinel Lymph Node, accessing it through a cut into my left under arm, and they made an incision in my back.    Your recovery will be different, but this may provide a guide for what to expect, minus the cat in the bed and TV shows.    Continue reading Recovery from a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy: Melanoma surgery

The Kitchen Witch is great, comic book fun for kids

I love to read. I’ve always loved to read and it was comic books that introduced me into the fact that reading is fun. That totally sounds like a PSA, but it’s true. I still read comic books, but, as a child I started reading easy reader comics like Spidey, and, to a lesser extent, Richie Rich. Thus, as a dad, I’m on the hunt for easy reader books that children will love. If your child is into fantasy adventure they will love The Kitchen Witch and here is why.
