Zootopia is semi-deep end Disney, fun animation with a soft message

Zootopia is a fascinating movie because one hand it’s a well done animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Sure, one expects their films to be well made, but what is surprising about Zootopia is how the plot can be looked at from entirely different perspectives, depending on your age. Recap: don’t trust anyone over 30. Every animal in the world has no predatory instincts. Those that used to kill and eat other animals no longer do. Every critter is domesticated and in Zootopia all of anthropomorphic species are living together in close quarters.

The Bunny Burrow Buyer’s Book, clever, but familiar

Easter is a great time for bunny books. The Bunny Burrow Buyer’s Book by Steve Light takes a look at the every expanding size of George and Petunia Bunny’s family. They are bunnies after all and the old burrow for two just isn’t cutting it any more. The art and detail in the book will attract readers 4 and up and its vocabulary is simple enough for a 6 year old to read it with a little assistance.

A #Heart2Heart with Pop, wishful thinking and lifestyle choices

Hey, I partnered with Life of Dad and Meta Wellness for this promotion. My dad is not a talker. I’m not a talker either but compared to him I’m Leo Getz. It’s an exercise of patience just to get him to tell me anything beyond how the weather is. Mind you, it is not because he’s not of sound mind, he is just not a talker. Our average phone call lasts about 5 minutes. The Heart 2 Heart campaign is all about men having health conversations with their loved ones. Knowing all of this I called my dad to talk about his health.

My health is better than average; thanks to my wife and my father, both of whom  assisted me using opposite methods. My wife is more of the conversationalist, let’s talk-figure out the problem and not repeat it in the future. I love to watch her and my father talk. He squirms like a worm looking for a wet pile of mud to go hide in.

Are You Listening by The Not-It’s, if not, you should be

I remember asking my father something when I was a child. He responded something along the lines of I still think like I’m in my 20’s, it just that responsibility has caught up with me. It wasn’t that profound, but his point was that his mind and interests were still the same, albeit with a couple (me and my sister) new ones. That mentality is the way I see The Not-It’s. Each member of The Not-It’s has pedigree in the Sub Pop era sound and 90’s style power pop. Their latest release, Are You Listening? presents the same spirit and alt rock chords, but with the kindie sensibilities that parents need for their children.

He Named Me Malala, well crafted film with details you think you know

He Named Me Malala is the story of Malala, the young girl that was shot by the Taliban for speaking out about the rights of girls to go to school. That is the story that the public knows-and every bit of that is true. In the documentary He Named Me Malala, airing commercial free on National Geographic Channel,  Monday, February 29 at 8PM ET we learn the details about her life prior to the attack, her recovery, home life and her desire to get every girl (in the world) into the class room.

This documentary is can’t-turn-away gripping. Part of that is accomplished by the content of the story, in addition to the way that the film was created.
