National Backyard Games Week: here are some eco-friendly ways to partake #Spon

Yes, there really is a week designated to National Backyard Games.  Granted it doesn’t have to be backyard games, they could take place in a park of any kind, but they’re games that don’t require much practice, equipment or toll on the environment-other than you falling down with a pillow case or potato sack around your feet.   Every month I write a couple of posts for SC Johnsons in their Green Choices blog.  This is my latest one about eco friendly outdoor games.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Around the Clubhouse World on DVD

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is our son’s comfort food.  It’s something that he can be entertained by, laugh a little bit and find nothing scary in it at all.  They’ve got a new DVD out, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Around the Clubhouse World that features an episode by the same name, as well as, four additional episodes.

Win tickets to Wizard World Atlanta Comic Con, May 30-June 1

This will be fun.  I fully credit comic books with making me the strong reader that I am today.  I’m also very much into pop (and poop) culture.  These roads will intersect in a big way at the Wizard World Atlanta Comic-Con May, 30-June 1.  The lineup is huge and I’m going back and forth in my mind as to who I want to see the most.

Naptime DIY: How to install a shelf

We recently removed all of the wallpaper in our laundry room and removed a large, unsightly metal shelving unit at the same time.  In doing this it left us with absolutely no area to put spray bottles or other things needed in the laundry room.  If you want to install a shelf, it’s DIY 101, but because we’ve previously done it incorrectly, it warrants pointing out a couple of things.

The precipice at the end of the school year

At the playground the other day after school I was near some moms.  I overheard their conversation where one of them was talking about how their husband didn’t understand the fact that she was dreading the coming end of school.  “oh, you have to drive around and run errands with the kids”, she said that he had sarcastically said.  Initially my ‘Dad Inequality’ gag reflex was triggered, but then I listened, thought about it and realized that she was 100% correct. The Precicipice at the end of the school year Continue reading The precipice at the end of the school year

Homefront is the best Jason Statham movie since The Transporter

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.  Jason Statham has a movie where he plays a cop whose family is being chased by some bad guys.  He’s played this character so many times he’s running away with the title of modern day Charles Bronson.  However, his career is the boy who cried wolf of action films.  More often than not audiences have only paid attention when he’s part of an ensemble cast, like The Expendables. Jason Statham’s latest film on DVD, Homefront is nothing to cry wolf about, in fact it’s his best film since The Transporter.

A Bucket of Blessings- a new classic children’s book for all

There is a lot to love about A Bucket of Blessings, written by Kabir & Surishtah Sehgal.  The story is simple, relatable to children, teaches them lessons and has big words &  pictures for children.  A Bucketful of Blessings is based on a little-known Indian myth that demonstrates the power of sharing, hope and blessings.

Godzilla is entertaining fun that leaves you wanting more

You say monsters and some people, a large, vocal portion of them will scream Godzilla.  Having lived in Japan for a couple years I saw some of the old school movies and enjoyed them, but never really understood the cult appeal that the character has.  Hollywood as never really done a good Godzilla movie, until now.  The latest take on Godzilla is the closest to being great yet.  It is a very good, fun summer popcorn movie that audiences 8 and up will enjoy.
